Insect Repellant

Clothing and skin treatments to protect workers from insects

Personnel performing field work are potentially in danger of being bitten by mosquitoes, ticks, flies, chiggers, fleas and other similar insects. Since these insects can carry serious or even deadly diseases such as Lyme disease, Dengue and West Nile Virus, it becomes necessary to provide your workers with protection. One such common but effective protective solution is insect repellant. Insect repellant can protect against these insects for a few hours. Simply apply the solution to clothing or skin.

Insect bites may be considered low on the list of hazards at work. This kind of thinking can be a bit risky when you consider a lot of diseases carried by biting insects can be potentially deadly. With this in mind, proper precautions should be exercised by your personnel especially when performing field work. One such precaution is to apply insect repellant onto clothes and skin. Most repellants contain DEET as the active ingredient which is highly effective in repelling insects. Those made from natural plant oils like Citronella are also effective. It should be remembered that both need to be reapplied from time to time, DEET based repellants every two hours or so, while natural ones every hour.
