Topical Ointments and Creams

Ointments are relatively fast acting and easy to apply even by non-medical professionals

Ointments are highly viscous medication that is usually composed of 80% oil and 20% water. Available with a variety of bases, ointments are usually moisturizing and have a very low irritation risk. There are a variety of ointments available although antibacterial and antibiotic variants are usually packed in with first aid kits. Application is simple and easy, but be sure to read the instructions on how to use these before application.

When dealing with cuts and wounds, ointments have proven to be effective at protecting it from various forms of infection. More often than not, ointments are easily applied to the afflicted site and are covered with bandages for additional protection. That said, it is a welcome addition to any first aid kit or cabinet, especially in industrial or manufacturing settings where tiny cuts and abrasions are commonplace.
